Zeta Jones in Doctor Who bid

DOCTOR Who creator Russell T Davies is desperate for Welsh beauty Catherine Zeta Jones to star in a film version of the BBC1 hit.

The award-winning writer, 45, said he would love Catherine, 38, to be David Tennant’s sidekick on the big screen. He added: “Being from Wales myself, I’d love to have Catherine Zeta Jones as a companion for the Doctor.”


But he insisted no one could replace David Tennant, 37, as the Time Lord.


He said: “To have anyone else would be inconceivable.”


Last month new Doctor Who boss Steven Moffat hinted the sci-fi hit could become a movie. Russell said: “I haven't had time to spit, let alone make a film. It would be hard but it’s a lovely idea.”


His new project, The Sarah Jane Adventures — which topped the CBBC ratings — returns on September 29.

Russell T Davies Who's In The Frame?

Russell T Davies has revealed that he thinks actor Russell Tovey has 11th Doctor potential, as and when David Tennant finally hands over the TARDIS key.

Corresponding with Benjamin Cook, co-author of upcoming hardback The Writer's Tale, Russell praises "Russell Tovey as Midshipman Frame [in Voyage Of The Damned], which is my favourite casting of the lot, because he's going to be huge, that man. He's amazing. I think I'd make him the Eleventh Doctor."

Other revelations in the book, which is based around email exchanges between Russell and Ben between February 2007 and April 2008, include an abandoned idea for Harry Potter author JK Rowling to appear in a Christmas Special.

"I thought, don't ask J.K. to write a Doctor Who, ask her to be in a Doctor Who! We've done Dickens, Shakespeare, Agatha Christie...why should kids think that all great authors are dead?"

The emails,several of which have been published in The Times this week, also reveal secrets of the upcoming Christmas special.

"The Doctor arrives, hears a damsel in distress," says Russell. "The Doctor steps forward to save her... when this other man [to be played by David Morrissey] swings in, dashing, brilliant, amazing, clever, witty, saves the day. The Doctor says, 'Who are you?' The man says, 'I'm the Doctor!' Good scene. The Doctor becomes his companion. I like that. Sweet. There will be a beautiful woman too, of course, but really it's the Doctor paired with a new Doctor."

'No objection' to Doctor Who film

The new writer of Doctor Who says he would not object to the hit TV series being made into a film.

Steven Moffat, who has replaced Russell T Davies at the helm, said it would be good to see the show at cinemas as long as it was "great and fantastic".

But he stressed any filming should not get in the way of making the series.

He also revealed Steven Spielberg was a Doctor Who fan and that Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson had one of ex-Doctor Sylvester McCoy's outfits.

Moffat is taking over from Davies, who revived Doctor Who in 2005, as the lead writer and executive producer for the fifth series of the show - due to be shown on BBC1 in spring 2010.

Asked at the Edinburgh International Television Festival whether he would like to see the series become a film, he said: "I'm not against it. I don't think it's the most important thing for Doctor Who.

"A movie is one 90 minutes a year. So yes, so long as it never gets in the way of the show. If it gets in the way of the show that's appalling.

"It's been in the cinema, with Peter Cushing. It would be good to see it in the cinema so long as it's great and fantastic."

Doctor's age

Moffat has already written some of the most memorable Doctor Who episodes of recent times including Blink, of series three - which featured terrifying weeping angels - for which he picked up the best writer Bafta earlier this year.

He was previously known for the landmark ITV children's drama Press Gang and Coupling, the award-winning sitcom he created and wrote for BBC2.

Moffat went on to rule out introducing an older Doctor Who, if and when David Tennant leaves the show.

"It's a practical issue. This is a show that's hard for even the young, super-fit David Tennant to keep up with. It might kill someone over 60," he said.

"If the Doctor turned into an old man you would be a bit p***** off. Even William Hartnell [the first doctor] had trouble back then, he was often ill and forgot his lines.

"I think he'll always probably tend to be around 40."

Writer Davies will remain in charge of four Doctor Who specials to be shown in 2009.

Doctor Who: Series five

After months of media speculation, BBC One can confirm that the Bafta-award winning Doctor Who will return for a fifth series in spring 2010.



Viewers are in for a treat this Christmas, as a special episode starring David Tennant and Kylie Minogue will be broadcast on BBC One in December 2007.



Series four, which went into production in July 2007, will hit UK screens in spring 2008 with a special episode for Christmas 2008.



In 2009, Doctor Who will return with three specials starring David Tennant, with Head Writer, Russell T Davies.



The full length fifth series will transmit in 2010.

Following the critically acclaimed season three finale, the BBC has announced that Catherine Tate is set to return to the Tardis for the complete 13-week run of series four of Doctor Who, reprising her role as Donna from the 2006 Christmas special.



Freema Agyeman, who won praise for her portrayal of Martha Jones in series three, is also set to return mid-series four.

Comedian Catherine Tate and singer Kylie Minogue are among the stars lined up to appear in forthcoming episodes of Doctor Who, according to the BBC.

Tate will reprise her role as Donna, the runaway bride, as the sidekick to David Tennant's Doctor in the fourth series of the hit drama next year.

Australian pop singer Kylie will appear in this year's Christmas special, the BBC said.

The star says she's 'delighted' to be returning to the Dr Who set

Tate, who is best known for her comedy creation, apathetic teenager Lauren and her catchphrase "am I bovvered?", played Donna in the show's last Christmas special.

She said she was looking forward to working with Tennant again.

"I am delighted to be returning to Doctor Who. I had a blast last Christmas and look forward to travelling again through time and space with that nice man from Gallifrey."

The comedian is set to reprise her role as runaway bride Donna

In the episode The Runaway Bride, Tate's character Donna was a woman who mysteriously vanished as she prepared to marry her boyfriend in a ceremony on Christmas Eve and reappeared, much to her astonishment, in the Tardis.

As the Tardis raced to the church, it was revealed that Donna was the key to an ancient alien plan to destroy the Earth.

The episode ended with the Doctor inviting Donna to travel with him - an invitation she declined.

Executive producer and writer Russell T Davies said: "Catherine was an absolute star in The Runaway Bride and we are delighted that one of Britain's greatest talents has agreed to join us for the fourth series.

"Viewers can expect more ambitious storylines and a whole host of guest stars in 2008."

The fourth series of Doctor Who goes into production this month and will hit UK screens in Spring 2008.

The BBC's official SJA website posted the new cinema trailer for Series 2 a few days ago. It'll be seen in cinemas from this week onwards I believe and gives us a glimpse of Sontarans and shape changing clowns. Plus it highlights the gorgeous Daniel Anthony who plays Clyde Langer in the series.....

IN THE 5TH EPISODE jules nr 1940 London on the Doctor Who Forum also provided these location photos from the fifth story of the new series in which apparently Sarah Jane and Luke time travel back to 1951.







The second series begins on 29th September and there are six two-part stories this year. The first series is currently being re-shown on Sunday afternoons on BBC1

The second series will guest star Bradley Walsh in two episodes which are to be written by Phil Ford, and Russ Abbot in a pair of episodes written by Gareth Roberts.

Also confirmed for the second series are Gary Beadle and Jocelyn Jee Esien, who will be introduced as Clyde's parents Paul and Carla. In the opening episodes, the Sontarans will make a re-appearance along with classic series favourite Sir Alistair Lethbridge-Stewart, played by Nicholas Courtney. A new member of Sarah's 'gang', Rani Chandra played by Anjli Mohindra, will make her debut in the second story after Yasmin Paige bows out as Maria after the first two episodes. She'll be introduced with her parents, Haresh, and Gita to be played by Ace Bhatti and Mina Anwar.

The Sarah Jane Adventures Episode Guide

The series features Elisabeth Sladen as an investigative journalist helping aliens when they need it and preventing evil aliens from taking over the world. The target market is children!

Season 2 2008 is set not long after the adventures in Doctor Who: The Stolen Earth and Journey's End

Season 2 filming began in July 2008 in Cardiff.

Season 3 has been confirmed for 2009.
