Series Five of Doctor Who continued on France 4 on Saturday, featuring Le labyrinthe des Anges (1+2) and Les Vampires de Venise. The shows achieved 375,000 viewers, 2% of the total viewing audience at that time (8:35pm onwards). Whilst this is a drop in the total viewers from last week (453,000), the audience share has remained the same.

A Christmas Carol - Final ratings

Sources are reporting that A Christmas Carol achieved a final rating of 12.11 million viewers with a 41.8% share of the total TV Audience.

The figure puts Doctor Who as the 3rd most watched programme of Christmas Day and is the fourth highest rating for the series since it returned in 2005. Only Voyage of Damned, The Next Doctor and The End of Time Part Two scored higher.

10.3 Million watch A Christmas Carol

Unofficial overnight figures show Doctor Who: A Christmas Carol was watched by an audience of 10.3 million on BBC One and BBC One HD last night.

The programme was the second highest rated for the day with EastEnders taking the top place with 11.4 million. The new Matt Lucas / David Walliams comedy, Come Fly With Me was third with just a few thousand viewers short of Doctor Who.

Once again the BBC triumphed with eight of the top ten places. Against Doctor Who ITV scheduled Emmerdale, which got 7.2 million watching. Doctor WHo got a share of 39.8% of the total audience.

So far Doctor Who is the fourth most watched programme for the week, behind one Coronation Street and two EastEnders.

1.3 million watched the programme on BBC One HD.

Who star not worried about Xmas ratings

Doctor Who star Matt Smith has claimed that he is not worried about the ratings for the show's upcoming Christmas special.

Last year, 'The End of Time - Part One' was the third most watched show on Christmas Day, with a final figure of 11.57m viewers.

Smith told BBC News: "I hope it continues to do well [this year], I really do. But I can't really feel any pressure for it because I've done it now. I've made it, so c'est la vie, what will be will be. It's out of my control. But I think it's a great episode."

The actor added that his first two years in the role of The Doctor had been a "wonderful" experience.

"It's whizzed by... because we're very busy up in Cardiff," he admitted. "But, yeah, it's been a wonderful two years. It's been a privilege to play it, I have to say, and it's been a great experience for me."

Moffat on the ratings

steven moffat has dismissed the low overnight ratings of the recent series of Doctor Who as unimportant.

“That is something that’s becoming very, very important to television. Everything in television used to be about the overnight and the ratings the following morning, the rating that we’ll hear tomorrow morning used to be so important and now it isn’t because so many people are watching on iPlayer, so many are catching it up later.
