The TARDIS has brought the Doctor Tegan and Turlough to the English country village of Little Hodcombe in 1984 where an alien war machine, the Malus, is affecting its inhabitants. A re-enactment of a civil war battle becomes dangerously real as the Malus gather sufficient psychic energy to re-awake.

The TARDIS arrives in the town of Tombstone in the Wild West and the Doctor, having hurt a touch on one of Cyril's sweets, decides he must visit a dentist. The local dentist is Doc Holliday, currently engaged in a feud with the Clanton family. Lawmen Wyatt Earp and Bat Masterson are meanwhile doing their best to keep the peace.

The Doctor is exiled to Earth in the late 20th Century by his own people - the Time Lords. The newly regenerated Doctor finds himself in Oxley Woods alongside a shower of mysterious meteorites.

Investigating these unusual occurrences is the newly-formed United Nations Intelligence Taskforce led by Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart. UNIT are soon called into action when people and meteorites start going missing but puzzling of all is the attempted kidnapping of a strange hospital patient - a man with two hearts, who insists that he knows the Brigadier... Terror of the Autons

Earth is in terrible danger. The Master has arrived with an evil scheme to destroy humanity and silence the Doctor forever by awakening the awesome power of the Nestene - a ruthlessly aggressive alien life form. With their control over all types of plastic, they form into faceless automatons, a willing army of destruction easily controlled by the evil Time Lord himself.

Aided by the Brigadier and his enthusiastic new assistant, Jo Grant, only the Doctor can combat their evil power, but this is easier said than done when every plastic doll, phone flex, or chair can be turned against him. First, however, he must defeat the Master.

Doctor Who: Meglos Out today

Zastor, Leader of the planet Tigella, rules a divided people. Savants and Deons are irrevocably opposed on one crucial issue - the Dodecahedron, mysterious source of all their power. To the Savants the Dodecahedron is a miracle of science to be studied, observed and used to benefit Tigellan civilisation. To the Deons it is a god and not to be tampered with. When the power supply begins to fluctuate wildly the whole planet is threatened, but the Tigellans cannot agree how they should deal with the problem.

Zastor welcomes the arrival of the Doctor and invites him to arbitrate, but the Deons are suspicious of the Time Lord - and perhaps rightly so... This exciting adventure is presented over two discs and includes some fantastic specially created content including a making of with cast and crew and audio commentary from the main cast including Laila Ward and Christopher Owen.

● The Scene Sync Story (dur. 12’ 03”) – ‘Meglos’ used a pioneering process called Scene Sync in the creation of many of its shots, in which a robotic camera moving over a model set followed the movements of a studio camera photographing the actors in a bluescreen set, allowing the two to be composited together into a single image. This documentary looks at the technology behind this precursor to today’s virtual-studio productions. With visual effects designer Stephen Drewett and studio cameramen Peter Leverick and Roger Bunce.
● Jacqueline Hill – A Life in Pictures (dur. 13’ 46”) – actress Jacqueline Hill was one of the original companions to accompany the Doctor in his early adventures, returning to the show many years later to play Lexa in ‘Meglos’. This documentary looks at the life of an actress whose life was taken tragically early by illness. With husband Alvin Rakoff, Doctor Who’s first producer Verity Lambert and friends and fellow actors William Russell and Ann Davies.
● Entropy Explained (dur. 4’ 53”) – Dr. Phillip Trowga of the University of Westminster looks at the principle of entropy, key to the plot of ‘Meglos’.

Mara Tales on DVD in March 2011

The Mara Tales Boxset, comprising the two fifth Doctor Stories, Kinda and Snakedance, will be released in the UK on 7 March 2011.

The remastered discs will feature new CGI for the Mara's manifestation as a snake, as well as documentaries on the making of the series, an interview with Christopher Bailey, the author of the two stories, and deleted scenes.

DVD Updated Release Schedule

The third Doctor Who DVD release of 2011 has been confirmed as the First Doctor story The Ark. This will be released in the UK on 28 February with a release in the US and Canada following a week later on 8 March. A release in Australia is expected soon after.

The first release of the year is the Fourth Doctor story Meglos, which following its previously announced release in the UK on 10 January and in the US and Canada on 11 January, has now been confirmed for an Australia release on 20 January helping to fulfill the desire of 2|entertain to release all titles worldwide within a much smaller timeframe.

The second release will be the Third Doctor Story The Mutants released in the UK on 31 January and in the US/Canada on 8 February.

As part of the catch up, the Fourth Doctor story, The Seeds of Doom, released in the UK in October, will be released in the US/Canada on 8 March.

Paradise Towers coming to DVD

The Seventh Doctor story, Paradise Towers is due for DVD release in 2011 according to a blog by the story's writer Stephen Wyatt.

First shown between 5th October and 26th October 1987 the four part story stars Sylvester McCoy as The Doctor with Bonnie Langford as Melanie along with guest stars Richard Briers as the Chief Caretaker, Elizabeth Spriggs as Tabby, Judy Cornwell as Maddy and Howard Cooke as Pex.

The story was the second story of Season Twenty Four and was directed by Nicholas Mallett.

Imagine that you’ve just discovered a new series on TV. You’ve devoured the tenth series and have started working your way through the back catalogue, but you’re mildly disappointed to discover that parts of the first series have never been released on DVD, but you soldier on nevertheless.

As you approach series seven, excitement begins to mount. You’ve heard from fellow fans on discussion boards that this is their favourite series, and you just cannot wait to see what all the fuss is about.

Interview with Sylvester McCoy, Time and the Rani DVD review

It certainly has been a busy week here at DWP Towers, quizzes and commentary tracks keeping the 50th episode celebration week ticking nicely along.

We have saved the best for last though - episode 50 is now yours to enjoy, and there is a lot to enjoy in this little file!

First up is an interview with the Seventh Doctor and soon to be Lord of the Rings Wizard, Sylvester McCoy.

Tom was lucky enough to have a bit of a chat with McCoy in his recent trip to the Big Finish studios. We think you will find this interview unlike any other you have heard from him.

Back in the studio, the boys review the Seventh Doctor's first adventure, now unleashed on DVD - Time and the Rani. This much maligned story has been given the 2Entertain deluxe DVD treatment and we look at the release and the story itself.
