The Story Of Doctor Who

imageAs part of this year's Celtic Media Festival, BBC Cymru Wales will be revealing the story behind the universe's most popular Time Lord at a very special public event in Caernarfon.

On the evening of Wednesday, 25 March 2009, BBC Wales will be hosting The Story of Doctor Who - a chance for members of the public to get up-close and personal with some of the show's most recognisable behind-the-scenes names.

The event, hosted by popular BBC Wales presenter Lucy Owen, will see a panel of distinguished talent - including Head Writer and Executive Producer Russell T Davies, Executive Producer Julie Gardner, Production Designer Edward Thomas, Director Euros Lyn and Brand Manager Ian Grutchfield - answer questions about how they take the show from script to screen. The panel will possibly be revealing a few trade secrets along the way too!

"Doctor Who's made in Wales, and this is a great chance to share in the whole range of the Celtic Media Festival, to celebrate everything made in this country," said Russell T Davies.

"We're very pleased to be able to confirm this very special event," added Elen ap Robert, artistic director at event hosts Galeri Caernarfon. "The revival of the Doctor Who series under Russell T Davies and the BBC Wales team has been such an immense success, and the programme has a very loyal following amongst audiences of all ages. Here's a rare chance to take a peek behind the scenes and put your own questions to those in the know."

The Celtic Media Festival is an annual three-day celebration of broadcasting, film talent and excellence from Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Cornwall and Brittany. Its aim is to promote the languages and cultures of the Celtic countries on screen and in broadcasting.

Further information, including ticketing details for The Story of Doctor Who are available by following the link below. The event begins at 8.00pm and please bear in mind that ticket allocation is limited.

Faker Comes Clean

Twitter is a great, useful tool - those of you that follow me might well agree - but it does have its fair share of nefarious uses, not least extending the internet-old aspect of identity massage.

As we've seen in recent weeks there are a fair few Doctor Who fakers out there, one of whom is THEDavidTennant, who Tweets regularly on being David Tennant.

Of course, THEDavidTennant is no more David Tennant than you or I (unless you happen to be David Tennant - hiya!).  No, this Twitter faker is a celebrity "satirist".

A few years ago, in the days of Fake Steve Jobs I thought it might be a good idea to start a blog as a Doctor Who celebrity.  Tom Baker was too obvious, while John Barrowman appears to be some sort of caricature already (unless he happens to be reading this - hiya!).  The only one left really was David Tennant - but he's just such a normal guy who is blessed with some talent, charm and guile, it hardly seemed fair.

Obviously, I canned the idea - it wouldn't have lasted beyond a few early, obvious gags.

My point is, you can't take seriously the thought that DT and Matt Smith might get involved in an episode like this...

Had a drink with Matt Smith, he was crying into his shandy about not being as good as me. I told him to shut up and get the round in

...is just unlikely, while the idea of the Tennster wandering around in kilts and eating only at McDonalds is silly and quite low-brow for any form of real satire.  Great for background, not so hot for really digging the whole life of a TV megastar.

On the plus side, however, at least Lisa Valentine (THEDavidTennant's alter ego) came clean when she realised that people truly thought she was David Tennant.

Which says a lot about her followers...

More Fakes Online...

Here's one for ya - Dean Gaffney is a fake! That's right folks, the @DeanGaffney account on Twitter which this week "revealed" that the Gaffmeister (himself a potentially fake actor) is listed as a dud on "Celebrities on Social Networks Sites Police" Valebrity.

Along with fake David Tennant's, Leonard Nimoys, Jeremy Clarkson's and Huigh Laurie's (although note that Stephen Fry genuinely is on Twitter), "Dean Gaffney" is potentially small-fry - until the clown behind the mask (and what an awful mask) makes a Doctor Who-sized slip up.

Now it might well be that the real Dean Gaffney is in fact in front of the Doctor Who cameras this very minute - however don't pay too much attention to the @DeanGaffney account on Twitter.

While we're at it - how devoid of any interest exactly must an online fakes life be?

And just how low do you have to get to want to pretend to be Dean Gaffney?

Doctor Who Specials Cast News & More

(Click for Larger Image)

At the weekend I asked the question who are the guest stars in Doctor Who 4:16, now they are revealed - Model Gemma Chan was speculated correctly, she will play someone called Mia Bennett.
Former Neighbours actor Peter O'Brien (why am I feeling ashamed an ex-Neighbours star is in Doctor Who?) is playing a villain and will be shooting his scenes at the end of the month.
The final story will be set on Mars!
The Taffswel quarry filming was for Mars (as we thought), so the episode being filmed ATM is 4:17/18 as originally speculated! The snow (or whatever it is) covered streets must be on Mars in the year 4126+ :)

Doctor Who 4:16 The Return Of Ood Sigma!

Doctor Who 4:16 features Ood Sigma played by Paul Kasey. The last time the Doctor met Ood Sigma was on the Ood-Sphere in the year 4126, in an episode called Planet of the Ood. This means if the Doctor and Ood Sigma are to recognise each-other, 4:16 must be set after 4126, when Ood Operations have been shut down.
Is Ood Sigma here to tell the Doctor his song is coming to an end (he is to regenerate), something else, or will it be another Ood story?
