Karen gillan - I was bullied for being ginger

Dr Who star Karen Gillan has told The sun how she was bullied at school - for being GINGER.

The 5ft 11in beauty said she couldn't wait to leave her hometown of Inverness after being taunted over her flaming locks and her height by cruel classmates.

Leggy Karen, who went to Charleston Academy in the city, said: "I remember walking down the corridor and someone going, 'Eurgh, you're tall, lanky and ginger!' I'd been itching to get out for years."

But the 23-year-old star defied the bullies by shooting to fame as a model and the telly Timelord's latest sexy companion Amy Pond.

And she said defiantly: "I'd never had a problem with being tall, and in terms of having red hair I always had a belief it would benefit me in the long run."

Karen left school at 16 to attend a drama course at Telford College in Edinburgh, before moving to the prestigious Italia Conti theatre school in London.

She was picked up as the face of trendy fashion house Boing, and hit the runways as a catwalk model for top designer Allegra Hicks.

Then, in her Dr Who debut she appeared in a STRIPPOGRAM WPC costume. After that she earned the accolade of the Timelord's sexiest ever companion, but Karen joked: "Dr Who assistants have been like that since the beginning, in leather bikinis and stuff, so this is nothing."

She now gets swamped with fan mail from smitten male followers.

Karen said she's not been sent anything "particularly alarming" - adding: "One guy sends me a postcard from every place he's gone to. It's really sweet."

Her celebrity lifestyle is a million miles from her up-bringing in the Highlands
